I’ve never really been a huge oatmeal fan, so when someone first mentioned overnight oats as a break-fast option I didn’t really have much desire to try it. Then one week it was in the FASTer Way Meal Plan, so I decided to give it a try. Since then I've played around with a few recipes and finally came up with this. I usually mix it all in a blender cup and just eat it out of there, but decided to fancy it up for this post.😉

Heidi Nhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16627068505671227907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8379011350753848555.post-24071956488161377842021-04-28T12:39:00.009-05:002021-05-03T14:32:43.632-05:00My Journey to Becoming a FASTer Way to Fat Loss Coach

Prior to doing the FASTer Way I was a little lost in terms of how to successfully lose weight and keep it off. I was working out on our elliptical multiple times a week, and was occasionally trying to incorporate some weights, but I really didn't know what to do with them. I had tried multiple diets, but I wasn't noticing any changes to my body composition. If anything, I'd gained weight. The last thing I tried before doing FASTer Way was a ketone drink. It tasted good, and I felt like I was seeing some results, though that could have been due to my calorie counting and exercise, but it was expensive and I realized that it wasn't going to be sustainable. I didn't want to be shelling out a couple hundred dollars every month for a drink, but what would happen if I stopped drinking it? I canceled my subscription and decided that I was just going to have to learn to love my new body.

A few months later I started seeing influencers on Instagram sharing their progress with FASTer Way to Fat Loss. I clicked on someone's link and began to read up on the program. My basic understanding was that it included a combination of Intermittent Fasting, Carb Cycling, Macro Counting and workouts. I was intrigued, but at the same time I was a little confused about what all of these buzz words meant and worried that it wouldn't be something I could sustain. Intermittent Fasting? I usually woke up hungry, so how in the world was I going to make it until noon without eating? What is carb cycling? What are macros? Will I be able to do this program? After a few weeks of debating with myself I decided that it was worth a shot, so I signed up for my first round. I was very nervous about what to expect, and if I'm being honest, still a little leery about whether or not it would be something I could commit to. I can remember telling my husband that I was going to spend $199 on this 6 week round and that it probably wouldn't work for me, but I was desperate and didn't know what else to try.

I was nervous when Prep Week started, but my coach did an amazing job of preparing us for success. I went into the second and third weeks with a much better understanding of the benefits of carb cycling, intermittent fasting, and macro counting. Once I started eating the right things, I didn't wake up hungry anymore and I was able to go the full 16 hours fasting. Meal planning was a bit of a struggle for me at first, but not because I was too limited in the foods I could eat. I wasn't. It was a struggle because I had a specific set of macro goals each day and I wanted to make sure I zeroed everything out. After a week or two I finally realized that if I'm +/-10 on any of my macros each day that's okay. Progress, not perfection.

In the beginning I did all of my workouts at home, and was sticking more to the low impact workouts, but as I moved through the program and began to gain some strength, I moved on to the home workouts. Eventually I started going to the gym on Saturdays for leg day. I was a bit intimidated to go by myself, so my husband joined me. Soon I was going to the gym for all three strength days and I was almost always by myself. I wasn’t intimidated anymore, I felt like I belonged.

I was amazed by the results I saw after my first round - I had lost weight and I was stronger - you could actually see some definition in my arms and legs! After that I enrolled in VIP, their monthly membership program. I was literally in the best shape of my life at 40 years old and didn’t ever want to go back. Then 2020 happened. I was still working out pretty often, but I stopped counting macros and was drinking more often. I realized then how important every aspect of FW is, especially the nutrition. I joined the 6 Week VIP Challenge at the beginning of this year and got back on track. The top photos are me at the beginning of the 6 week challenge on January 3, 2021, and the bottom photos are from the end of the challenge on February 14, 2021.

FASTer Way gave me the confidence to go to the gym by myself. FASTer Way taught me how to eat a balanced diet and that it’s okay to have a glass of wine, eat a piece of pizza or some ice cream every once in awhile, as long as it fits into my macros. And truth be told, sometimes I'll have it even if it doesn't fit into my macros. FASTer Way is a lifestyle for me, not a diet, and because of that I know that if I skip tracking for a day (or a week when I'm on vacation) I won't derail my progress. One of my favorite things I learned from FASTer Way is progress not perfection (a hard thing to learn for a girl who has always been somewhat of a perfectionist).

Since leaving teaching 6 years ago I’ve been searching for a purpose. I love being a wife and mom, but I feel like I need something else. As a teacher, I was impacting the lives of 20+ students a year, and I miss that. That's why taking the leap from FASTer Way client to FASTer Way client AND coach was so easy for me. By becoming a coach I still have the opportunity to impact the lives of others in a positive way. In 2017 I came up with a cleaning routine and it was definitely helpful, but last year after a friend shared her cleaning calendar on Instagram I decided to take it a step further and create a daily calendar/to do list. I even went so far as to frame it and put it in my laundry room!

Each day is broken down by room or group of rooms and then I listed out the tasks to complete in the room(s). I also added laundry to the daily list, which really helped me get a handle on our laundry. I don't know about you, but I feel like I'm always buried in laundry. It's not the washing that I struggle with, it's folding and hanging/putting away. When I follow my "Cleaning Cards" and do a load of laundry a day, I'm able to stay caught up. Unfortunately I haven't been following it lately, so my laundry is piling up, but it's a new week so I decided to get back to the calendar. If you click on the link above it will allow you to make a copy of the Cleaning Cards and edit it. Hope this is helpful!

Most of the products that I use to clean are in my Amazon Subscribe & Save, so I never run out of the products I need!

Heidi Nhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16627068505671227907noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8379011350753848555.post-24212978567809548952021-03-26T08:00:00.006-05:002021-03-26T14:53:02.086-05:00Avocado Egg Salad
It's Lent, which means that on Fridays we don't eat meat. We're also doing a Macro Bell Curve in FASTer Way VIP, and Fridays are now low carb days. This wouldn't be that big of an issue if low carb just meant don't eat a lot of carbs, but when you eat low carb you need to make up those calories with fat. My go to protein/fat on low carb days is usually Aubrey at Kale Kouture's Dill Chicken Salad (if you like chicken salad, head to her blog and search for the recipe - it does not disappoint), but since I can't eat meat on Fridays right now, I needed to come up with something different. I decided to use most of the same ingredients and try to make egg salad with them.

Ingredients:

1 whole egg

3 egg whites*

1 T celery

1/2 avocado (usually about 50 grams)**

1 T Hellmann's Light Mayo

1 tsp Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt

1/4 tsp Dill Weed

Salt & Pepper to taste

*You could definitely use the yolks of all of the eggs if you want to, but I was originally thinking that I'd be making this on a Regular Macro day (most of the time Fridays are Regular Macro), which means less fat, so I decided to use just the egg whites (high protein, almost no fat). When I realized that it was a Low Carb day I decided to stick with my original plan and just use the whites, but to add in avocado for added fat. Plus, I think it tastes better this way.

**If you wanted to make this lower in fat then you could omit the avocado. You might need to increase the mayo/yogurt just so it's not too dry, though.

Directions:

Hard boil the eggs. I do have one of those fancy Dash Egg Cookers (fancy because of how it cooks them, not because of the price - it's actually less than $20), and I use it when I think about it, but most of the time I still revert back to boiling them on the stove. Once they're cooked, immediately transfer them to an ice bath. This helps stop the cooking process (I think) and it makes them easier to peel (the real reason I do it, but throwing out the "it stops the cooking process" just makes me sound more knowledgeable in the kitchen.😉

While the eggs cook, slice the avocado and discard the pit. I'm not mad about it ~ who doesn't like getting happy mail? Amazon makes life so much easier. Last Monday my egg slicer broke, and by Tuesday I had a new one in my hand. Could I have just gone to Target to grab the same egg slicer? Probably. But then I'd have to get in my car and drive there, and I'd end up coming home with $100 worth of stuff that I didn't really need. Target has that effect on you. By shopping at Amazon, I'm totally saving money!😉

One of my favorite things to eat on low carb days, or any day, is avocado toast. My husband make the most amazing avocado mash, and on low carb days we eat it on Trader Joe's Gluten Free Crispbread. I'm always looking for a kitchen gadget that is going to make life easier, so when I found this avocado knife I immediately added to cart. It slices through the peel perfectly and it makes perfect little avocado slices. It took a few tries before I got the hang of using the pitter, but once I figured out that you have to twist the knife it was so easy! Could I get by without the avocado knife? Probably, but it's a definite time saver and it was less than $10, so it was totally worth it!

I love to have sliced up bananas mixed into my overnight oats, and one of my favorite "treats" is sliced strawberries and bananas with Almond Milk Whipped Cream. A butter knifes slices the banana fine, but I always end up with an odd piece at the end when I'm holding it in my hand, and I'd rather not get a cutting board dirty. When I saw this banana slicer I decided to give it a try. I love it! It makes slicing bananas a breeze, and there is never that odd piece left over because you just keep putting it back in the slicer. Totally worth the $7 I spent.

My son loves marinara sauce, my daughter hates it. One of Carter's favorite foods is lasagna, but because Sophia doesn't like red sauce we rarely make it (she still hasn't gotten past noodles and butter). Well, one day I decided to try making her lasagna without sauce. I needed something to add some moisture to it, so I subbed olive oil for the marinara sauce. She loved it! I started making it almost weekly, and each time I made it I used those disposable aluminum loaf pans. I wasn't thrilled about having to throw the pans away every week, so I went on a hunt for something else. When I found this lasagna trio pan and knew it would be perfect! Now I can make Carter and Sophia their own lasagna, and if Michael and I want to trick up our lasagna at all we can. It's only $20, and considering I was buying disposable pans every week I figure I'll be saving money soon.

We love to make smoothies - it's a great way to get in your fruits and veggies (carbs), and there are so many things you can add to easily get more fat and protein into your diet. It seems like we almost always add nut butter (we usually stick to almond butter or peanut butter) to our smoothies to make them creamier, and bonus: added fat and protein! I used to get frustrated when adding nut butter to our smoothies because it always gets stuck to the spoon, and when you finally get it off the spoon sometimes it ends up stuck on the side of the blender cup and doesn't always mix in completely. Then someone mentioned freezing your nut butters - not only does it eliminate the problem of it sticking to the spoon/cup, you don't have to add any ice to your smoothie because the nut butter is frozen. Genius! I ended up grabbing this silicone ice cube tray and it works great! I still have to deal with the frustration of the nut butter sticking to the spoon, but it's only once when I'm filling the tray, so I can deal. And each little hexagon holds about a teaspoon of nut butter, so I don't have to be too precise.

When I started tracking foods in MyFitnessPal I realized that a lot of the foods are listed by weight and that it's better to weigh your foods than to just choose something similar. For example, a medium banana is listed in MFP as having 30 carbs, but when I weighed what I'd call a medium banana and entered the weight into MFP it only had 21 carbs. Those extra 9 carbs are important! I wasn't sure what to buy, but when I found this digital food scale and it was a decent price. I also liked that you could change the unit of measurement (grams, ounces, fluid ounces, mL), so I went ahead an ordered it. I love that it's pretty small, and it's nice that it's stainless steel - I store it on the griddle cover on our stove and it blends in because the cover is also stainless.

*This post is not sponsored. I'd seen it mentioned several times in FASTer Way Meal Plans, but I'd never had even had chia seeds before, so I was pretty sure Chia Seed Pudding would be out of my wheelhouse. Then we did a smoothie reset last summer in FASTer Way VIP, and a few of the smoothies had chia seeds as an ingredient. They're a good source of fat and protein, and only have 4 carbs (0 net carbs on low carb days), so I decided to give Chia Pudding a try. I scoured the internet and looked at a lot of different recipes, and finally settled on a combination of what I'd found. I started out making Vanilla Chia Seed Pudding, but then I ran out of my vanilla protein powder, so I switched to chocolate and have been making it that way ever since. Chia Seeds have no flavor, so the pudding will taste like whatever you add in (I have a snickerdoodle protein powder that I might try next).

Ingredients:

4 T Chia Seeds

3/4 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk

1 scoop Chocolate Protein Powder (I like the I Heart Macros Chocolate Milkshake Protein Isolate)

1/2 T Pure Organic Maple Syrup

Directions:

Whisk all ingredients together and let it sit for five minutes. Unfortunately about a month ago Carter decided he wasn't a fan of having a smoothie for breakfast, and around the same time it started to become almost impossible to get Sophia's donuts - our local grocery store was either out of them or they were expired/about to expire. Thankfully it's fall, and that's the time when everyone wants pumpkin everything! When I say everyone there, I'm actually talking about the world at large, not inside my house. My kids are two of the pickiest eaters - for Carter that mainly applies to breakfast foods, but for Sophia, it applies to all meals. They might not eat pumpkin everything, but they do eat these muffins, so they're pretty much a fall staple in our house (and might become a winter, spring, and summer staple - as long as they're eating them I'll be making them).

To make these muffins you literally only need three ingredients, and if you or your kids aren't into chocolate then you only need two.
I started this blog post for my 40th birthday last year, but I never published it because I couldn't think of anything past number 18. I guess I'm just not that interesting. Ha! Anyhow, I found this in my drafts folder and thought it'd be a fun way to get back into blogging. Tell me one interesting fact about you in the comments below!

1. I am one of those people who is extremely ticklish, but it doesn't just tickle, it HURTS! Luckily as I've gotten older there are less spots that are super sensitive, but still. Don't tickle me (and if you're tickling someone else and they say, "Stop," please do - I'm quite sensitive to this).

2. I attended six schools from Kindergarten to 6th grade, and during that time I attended one of the six schools for three and a half years. My dad was transferred from St. Paul, Minnesota to Overland Park, Kansas at the end of Kindergarten, so my parents enrolled me in Kinder at Tomahawk Elementary in KS for the last two weeks of school so I'd make friends. Unfortunately our house ended up being zoned to another school the following year, so it didn't do any good. For first grade through the middle of fourth grade I attended Walnut Grove Elementary. In fourth grade my dad was transferred back to Minnesota, so I finished out fourth grade at South Elementary in St. Cloud, MN. The following year they rezoned, so I ended up going to North Elementary and all of the friends I'd made at South stayed there. For my final year of elementary school (6th grade) they opened several new elementary schools, so I went to Oak Hill Elementary with some friends from South, but none from North. The funny thing is that South became a middle school, so I ended up going back there for 7th and 8th grade.

3. Michael and I didn't go to the same high school, but we did meet our senior year. We both got jobs at the new grocery store they were opening up near our houses: Tom Thumb. I was a checker and he was a sacker. He was actually my favorite sacker because he was one of the few that would sack groceries for me. Most of the other sackers knew that I didn't mind sacking, so they'd let me do it and then do the carry out so they could get tipped. Stinkers! Michael sacked for me, so I told him I loved him. I ended up inviting him to my 18th birthday party, but then my friend's mom (it was at her house) said boys weren't allowed so I had to uninvite him. Our first date ended up being the day after my birthday. We were supposed to go see a movie, but it was sold out, so we drove around and looked at Christmas lights and then went to a restaurant and shared a brownie. It was the perfect first date!

4. My big rebellion in college was getting my belly button pierced. My parents were not happy at first, and to this day my dad still doesn't want to talk about it. However, my mom decided that she thought it was really cute, so she paid for me to have it redone after the first one came out and I couldn't get it back in. Needless to say, my dad was even more unhappy the second time around, but at least my mom shared in the blame!

5. The first time I ever got drunk was when I was in college. We were at Side Street Bar in Austin and instead of getting my own drink, I just shared my friends' Long Island Iced Teas and Margaritas. It's never a good idea to mix a bunch of alcohols. The night ended with me getting sick at the bar and then Michael walking me to his car and me believing that I was hallucinating because I saw a cop on a horse (it wasn't a hallucination, they really have cops on horseback). Did I mention that I was underage? Michael was very anxious to get me away from the cops and home to my dorm.

6. Toes freak me out. It's not the toes themselves, it's people who can spread apart and cross their toes that creep me out. Maybe it's because mine don't do that, I don't know. It's just yuck.

7. I don't like when my right side is exposed. What do I mean by exposed? I can't stand having open space to my right. When we go to restaurants all of my family and friends know that I can't be on the end with my right side open. As I'm sitting here typing this my right arm is beginning to feel weird.

8. Three weeks after Michael and I got married we moved to Stamford, CT, so he could do a rotation at the FASB. I ended up having to using a staffing agency to find a teaching job at a Catholic school in Stamford and had to pay them 7% of my $21,000 salary for getting me an interview. I taught PreK in the morning and 3rd and 4th grade Reading and Social Studies in the afternoon. It was an interesting job.

9. I do not do well around snot, vomit, or diarrhea. Luckily (knock on wood), Sophia and Carter haven't had tummy bugs that often, and when they have Michael has always been around to deal with it, because Mommy cannot handle it. That gag reflex is no joke y'all!

10. I can't do a cartwheel or spin a hula hoop. Sophia amazes me because she taught herself how to do a cartwheel and is a rock star at the Hula Hoop competition on Field Day every year at school. Here's a video she made in 2015 to teach you how to do a cartwheel (sadly it hasn't helped me).

11. I love to play games! Card games, board games, you name it, I'll play it!

12. I'm allergic to platinum. Unfortunately it took 15 years for me to figure it out, but I am. After we got married and moved to CT I developed this weird red rash behind my legs and in the crooks of my elbows. I went to the doctor and they couldn't figure out what it was. They prescribed oral steroids and the rash cleared up. However, it continued to return off an on, just on a much smaller scale. When we moved back to Texas I went to see my doctor and described it to him (I wasn't having any issues when I saw him) and he thought it sounded like eczema. He prescribed a steroid cream and I used it whenever I had bumps show up. Fast forward to fall 2017 and I got a bad rash (closer to what I had the first time it happened in CT) right under my wedding ring. I stopped wearing my ring and put the steroid cream on and it slowly started to heal, but the minute I put my ring back on it flared back up. I did a little research and discovered that, while rare, you can have a platinum allergy. I went to my dermatologist and they taped those allergy test strips to my back. We eventually learned that I'm allergic to gold sodium thiosulfate and bacitracin (an ingredient in Neosporin). The doctor was also pretty certain I'm allergic to platinum (I guess there isn't a test for it?), so they advised I get a new wedding ring. Michael and I went to the jeweler right before Christmas and picked out the most beautiful rings to replace my originals. Merry Christmas to me! The new rings are white gold, and for some reason even though I have a gold sodium thiosulfate allergy these don't seem to bother me (knocking on wood again). I still have the original engagement ring and band in my jewelry box, so I can look at it whenever I want to, but I'm pretty glad I was "forced" to get an upgrade. 😍

13. One of my favorite snacks is a dill pickle wrapped in a cheese slice. Don't knock it until you've tried it! I also used to love mustard and cheese sandwiches...Sophia prefers mayo and cheese.

14. I can't stand black coffee. I do, however, love me a White Chocolate Mocha from Starbucks, but given the kids zebra hot chocolate is called a White Mocha on the receipt, I'm guessing there isn't that much coffee in my "coffee" drink. I have recently started drinking Starbucks Cold Brew coffee thanks to @themacrobarista on Instagram. I order a grande with three pumps NF SF Vanilla, one pump of caramel, and light cream (half and half) ~ it's pretty good. Maybe my taste buds are changing as I'm getting older, or maybe my "coffee" drinks still aren't really coffee.

15. I've been to half of the states: Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin. I've actually probably driven through a few more, but these are the ones I actually remember visiting.

16. I've been to 5 countries (6 if you count the one I live in): Canada, England, France, Mexico, and the Netherlands.

17. I LOVE Christmas, but then, who doesn't?!

18. We got a puppy our first Christmas as a married couple. Ever since then I've had these crazy weird dreams where I "wake up" and am convinced that whatever I'm dreaming about is really happening. The first time it happened Michael tried to convince me it was just a dream, so I slapped his arm and told him, "Don't patronize me!" It used to involve Bailey, our puppy, but once Sophia and Carter came into the picture they took over the dreams.

I hope that you enjoyed getting to know me a little better. I want to start posting again more regularly, so if there is something you want to see, drop it in the comments along with an interesting fact about you!

I have always loved writing. When I was younger, I used to dream about becoming a published author. Does this blog count? ;) After I stopped teaching three years ago (I can't believe it's already been three years!) I decided to start this blog as a way to explore some of my other passions: decorating, cooking, fashion, travel, and of course, writing.

I enjoyed producing content, but always felt embarrassed and uncomfortable about sharing it with anyone. There are so many amazing influencers (blogs and on Instagram) that I follow, and they make it look so easy. It comes naturally to them. Not for me. I guess I lack the self-confidence it takes to be able to put myself out there and say, "Come follow me! Look at how awesome I am! If you buy this you'll be awesome too!" That's not to say that any of the influencers that I follow are doing that. Every one of them seems real, not like they're just putting on a show to get you to go out and spend money. However, with that being said, it's hard to be an influencer and make money (it is a job) without looking like you're telling people to "buy all the things." It's hard to follow someone's blog or Instagram and see them sharing cute new clothes or decor all the time and not start to think you need to buy the clothes or decor too. I have a closet full of clothes that I really didn't need because I was sucked into believing I needed "all the things." But again, that's not the influencer's fault, it's mine for feeling like I needed to spend money to be happy/better.

I never planned on making my blog a career. It's not. I've never made money off of this blog (if you clicked a link I shared I would get 5 cents put into an account, but you only ever get paid once you hit a certain level and I never got there), and I'm totally fine with that. I did receive those PopSugar Must Have boxes for free in exchange for a review (it didn't have to be on the blog, just social media). In all honesty, I loved the boxes that I received, and still use many of the items that were included, but I haven't ever purchased a box, so it was disingenuous of me to tell you to go out and buy one. With that being said, if I hadn't received so many boxes free I may have tried it just once for fun. I have tried Birchbox and Stitch Fix and it was always fun opening "happy mail," but the point is that you didn't need it, so it wasn't fair of me to show it to you and say "Here's this offer code. Go spend money!" I don't want to be that person that tells you that you need to completely revamp your wardrobe or decorate your house to be enough. You don't. You are beautiful and your house is a home. And that's enough.

I do want to continue writing, but I don't really know what to write about. That's one of the big reasons I stopped blogging - I didn't want to always be sharing new things for you to go buy, but I didn't know what to write about if it wasn't that. And again, I don't necessarily feel 100% comfortable putting myself out there. I definitely have some insecurities I need to work on, and I need to stop looking at other bloggers and Instagrammers and comparing myself to them. I am enough. I think I actually wrote a blog post awhile back with that title. I guess I should probably go back and read it and see if what I said then can finally sink in. Read it. Definitely need to take what I said to heart.
If there is something that you would like to see on this blog, please share! I've got plenty of time, so if you want book reviews, vacation itineraries (I'm currently researching and planning for our trip to Park City in March, but I'd be happy to do some research on your vacation for you - it's seriously #sofun to research and plan out a vacation - even if I'm not the one taking it ;), meals, closet staples, etc. I want to write, but I really don't know what to write, so if you want to hear from me, please share your ideas/requests! I don't know, maybe I'll just use this as a journal, though journals are usually meant to be private. I don't know. I'm still trying to find my purpose (my #oneword for the year).
I don't know about you, but I don't always want to spend a ton of money on shoes. Target is pretty much my favorite store to buy anything, and I have to say, when it comes to booties #targetdoesitagain! Here are some of my favorites.

1. Sock Booties

2. Double Zipper Booties I got these last year in both the cognac and black (I did go up a half size). Even after wearing them all the time, they still look brand new! Highly recommend!

3. Laser Cutout

4. Leopard Booties - I had been eyeing a much more expensive pair of leopard booties on the Nordstrom website, but couldn't quite justify spending the money since I wasn't sure how much I'd actually wear them. I am so glad I held off because I absolutely LOVE these and the price was so much better! These fit TTS.

I'm not usually into getting clothes to match my vacation destination, but it seems that most of the items I've purchased for the summer seem to match our destination: Hawaii!

Orange Dress As soon as I saw this dress, I knew it would be perfect for our trip! It just looks like Hawaii to me.

Flamingo Shorts I ordered these shorts on a whim, and I have to say that I love them! The pattern is so fun! I also got these and these. I love to pair a patterned bottom with a basic top. They'll look great with my favorite v-neck tees and tanks!

White Embroidered Blouse The embroidery on this blouse is so pretty, and I love that the material a little heavier weight (read: not sheer)!

Bikini (Top & Bottom) I love that this swimsuit brand comes in small, medium, and large, but also the cup sizes D and DD. I am always worried about not getting enough support from bikini tops, but this one is great!

Sandals (less than $30) I posted about these in this post, and am so glad that I ended up ordering them! They're so cute and fun!

Straw Purse I got this version for Mother's Day, but I love the orange - it would look great with the orange dress!

Earrings If there's ever a time to step out of my comfort zone and wear some fun tassel earrings, Hawaii is it!

Sleep Shorts I either sleep in these sleep shorts and a tank top, or this romper. Super comfortable and cool (as in not hot, I'm not commenting on how cool I am!).

Black Strapless Romper Maxi This was a last minute purchase. I love the combination of shorts and the maxi skirt!

Here are some other items I'm packing for the trip! Are you taking any trips this summer?
We have some fun trips planned for the summer, so I've been doing some travel research and planning to get ready. Today I thought I'd share some of my newfound travel/packing wisdom with you. :)

1. Packing Cubes I am what you would call an overpacker, so I'm all for anything that will help reduce the amount of luggage I need without reducing the amount of stuff I'm bringing. LOL! I've read really good things about packing cubes, so I decided to try them out. I ordered the six piece value set as well as a three pack of the medium bags. The first time I use them will be when we go to Hawaii in June, so I'll do a full review after that, but if you're looking for ways to organize your suitcase now, definitely check them out!

2. Woolite Travel Detergent Packets I am notorious for spilling on myself (if I can make it through a meal without getting food in my hair or on my clothes it's a miracle!), so while wearing something more than once on a trip sounds like a great idea, it's rarely ever worked out in the past. I discovered these Woolite Travel Packets on our trip to Europe a few years ago, and now I don't travel without them! They're perfect for throwing in your suitcase, and it's really quick and easy to handwash an item in your hotel room sink when needed.

3. Wet Beach Stuff Bag Oftentimes when traveling your return flight is after your checkout time, but it's hard to go to the pool because you don't want to pack a wet swimsuit in your suitcase. This wet stuff beach bag is the perfect solution to that problem - now you can spend your last morning relaxing by the pool or on the beach, and when you're ready to change out of your wet suit you can stick it in the bag before throwing it in your suitcase. Sounds heavenly (pool/beach time, not a wet bag in your suitcase - ha!).

4. SKITS Tech Case I mentioned this in my Holiday Gift Guide for Him and I have to say that this is probably one of Michael's favorite gifts from Christmas! It seems so silly that someone would be excited over cord organization, but when you think about how many chargers you need to take with you when you travel (phone charger, eReader charger, fitness watch charger, laptop/iPad charger, etc) it really comes in handy in terms of keeping cords organized and untangled.

5. Noise Canceling Headphones I've been going back and forth about whether or not I should order these before our Hawaii trip. We're flying first class, and the airline's website says they provide them, but what if they run out or just don't end up having them? They're pretty expensive to buy, and I'm not sure how often I'll use them other than when we're traveling, but at this point I don't have any headphones (I lost my earbuds when we were in Mexico last year) so I probably need to get something. If you travel a lot like Michael does, then you should probably invest in some good noise canceling headphones (Michael has these and loves them), but if you don't travel as much a good pair of earbuds is probably enough.

6. Kindle Paperwhite In the past I've always carried at least one book onto the plane with me and packed one in my suitcase, but they tend to take up space and add weight, so I'm excited to start traveling with my Kindle instead! When I first got it I wasn't sure I liked it, but it's so handy to have a book with me wherever I go, and it weighs less than 8 oz so it doesn't add much weight to my bag (truth be told, I don't feel much of a difference when it's in/out of my bag). It's also really nice because as long as I can connect to WiFi I can always download a new book, so I'm never without something to read!

7. Passport Holder If you're leaving the country, you need something to hold your passport that will stand out when you're digging for it in your bag, and it doesn't hurt if it's cute!

8. Large Tote When I travel I like to bring a book, a puzzle book, magazines, my wallet, a snack (essential on the plane to help prevent motion sickness), a cardigan, etc, and I don't want to get bogged down with an extra bag, so I carry my LV Neverfull and fill it to the brim. I usually keep all of our passports in my purse, so I keep them in the wristlet that came with my LV Neverfull. This reversible tote & wristlet (less than $50!) would work perfectly to hold your passports/travel documents and all of your other travel essentials! And it comes in so many fun colors (I especially love the blue/grey combo)!

Where are you traveling to this summer? What are your travel essentials?
I wanted to pop in and let you know that my posts may be a bit light for the next month or so. I was offered a tutoring job at the elementary school where I used to teach (the school my kids go to) that I just couldn't pass up. Initially it was going to be half day, so I though I'd still have time to blog, work out, stick to the cleaning schedule that I started a few weeks ago, etc, but now it's full day, so it's going to be a balancing act. At the end of the month I'm either going to be filling out an application for a full-time teaching job next year or be exhausted and ready for a vacation (or both!). A few months ago I was sure that I'd be back to teaching full-time next year, but then I started to find my way, and now I'm kind of thinking I'm good the way things are. Of course, I'm two days into my tutoring job and spent half the night planning for the groups I'm working with, so teaching is definitely a passion. We shall see. If any of my PTA friends are reading this they're probably freaking out a bit right now - I signed up to be president-elect next year, and can't exactly do that if I'm teaching! Rest assured ladies, I'm happy where I am. I think?

Anyhow, I will update my blog when I can, and I'll do my best to keep up with my Facebook page. If you haven't liked my page yet, please do!

Talk to you soon!

I have been debating about whether or not to write this post, but I decided that if I'm going to be real with you then I need to put it all out there. I've been struggling a lot lately with whether or not I'm enough....am I pretty enough? Smart enough? Am I a good enough mom? Wife? Sister? Daughter? Friend? Blogger?

Unfortunately a lot of these feelings have come up since I stopped working. Being a stay-at-home mom when your kids are at school, your husband is at work/traveling, and most of your friends are still working is hard. It's lonely. That's one of the reasons I started this blog. It's a way for me to still feel connected to something. When I write a blog post it's like I'm talking to a friend. I'm not as lonely. I enjoy it. But it's also hard because I don't necessarily feel like I can write a post if I don't have something "new" to share. Since there isn't much new going on in my life, that usually means new clothes, shoes, decor, etc. And that means I'm spending money. It's not like I'm spending my way into serious debt, but it's also not realistic to always be going out (or online) and buying things. And again, am I good enough at this where people actually want to read what I'm writing? Am I writing about things people actually care about? At this point my blog traffic isn't very high, but is it because people aren't interested in what I have to say or is it because I'm not good enough (again with not being good enough!) at marketing myself?

It's so hard not to compare myself to the other bloggers I follow. And at this point my followers pale in comparison to theirs. But it's not about them, it's about me. I need to stop comparing myself to them, but as women isn't that what we always do? We live in a society where we're constantly comparing ourselves to others. I even find myself comparing Sophia and Carter at times. But I shouldn't compare them. And I shouldn't be comparing myself to anyone. But how do you stop? I guess the first step, as with anything, is recognizing that it's happening, which I guess I'm doing now.

I am good enough at everything I do. Could I be better? Absolutely. But I only need to be better for myself, not for my blog audience (that would be you), however big or small, not for anyone. I am enough.
A huge trend the past few years, in everything from jewelry to home decor items, is tassels and pompoms. It's such a fun and easy way to add some flair to your outfit and home, and there is no shortage of options in all categories!

Earrings

I tend to wear stud earrings more often than anything, but every once in awhile I like to wear a statement piece. Up until recently that meant a chunkier necklace, but lately I've been drawn to fun earrings. BaubleBar has been my go-to for affordable statement jewelry, and now they have an even more affordable line at Target! It's called SUGARFIX by BaubleBar. Everything is less than $30 ~ all the earrings are under $20! When you can get a fun pair of earrings for $12.99, you don't feel so bad if you only wear them a few times (or if we're being honest here, still haven't worn them....I'm packing them for Hawaii and will wear them then....). Here are some of my favorites, both from BaubleBar and their SUGARFIX line from Target.

Tassels and pompoms are just fun! I mean, how can you say not say hello right back to that sweet little iPhone case (pun intended)?

There are so many fun shoe trends right now! When it comes to trendy items, I tend to try to save rather than splurge because there is no guarantee that the trend will carry through to the next year. With that in mind, I decided to find some dupes for current designer shoe trends. Target is really upping their shoe game - most of the dupes came from there!

The Sephora VIB Spring Sale started today and runs through 4/24 for for VIB members (use code "VIBSPRING"), so I thought I'd share some of my favorites in case you want to pick anything up. This is one of my favorite sales because you get 15% off with no exclusions.

1. Urban Decay Anti-Aging Eyeshadow Primer I never used to use eyeshadow primer. Who am I kidding, I never used to wear eyeshadow! Anyhow, this was the first primer I tried, and after trying several others I went back to it. It really makes a difference as far as keeping your eyeshadow in place and preventing creasing. I also like this primer, which you get free with the Smashbox Full Exposure Palette.
I don't have bad acne, but every once in awhile something pops up. With this cleanser that doesn't happen as often, and I love that it's anti-aging.
I ordered this one for summer (SPF 40!).
If you're looking to buy a new fragrance, now is the perfect time to buy! I just ordered the Chloe Love Story Rollerball for myself and the YSL L'Homme Travel Spray for Michael. I love the idea of buying a rollerball or travel size to start because it allows you to try the fragrance before you commit to a bigger, more expensive, size. Sephora actually offers a fragrance sample kit that comes with a coupon for a free rollerball of your favorite! I'm sharing some of my favorite perfumes here. I'm still searching for the perfect cologne for Michael. My two favorites are the ones my dad wears, and I think it might be a little weird if my husband smells like my dad. Lol! What's your favorite men's cologne?

The sale starts tomorrow (4/20) for Beauty Insiders (use code "BISPRING") and lasts through 4/23. It's free to become a Beauty Insider, and it's definitely worth it just to get to shop the sale (did I mention 15% off?), so if you haven't joined, sign up here.

I've somehow spent WAY too much money at Sephora over the past year and am VIB Rouge, so I placed an order yesterday (code "ROUGESPRING"). We are going to Hawaii in June, so I had a cart full of products for the trip, and I decided to take advantage of the 15% off and pick up a few things that I'm running low on. So yeah, my order was huge. Here is what I ordered:

I don't know about you, but now that I'm a mom I want a swimsuit that gives me a little more coverage. Okay, maybe it doesn't have as much to do with me being a mom as it does with my body not looking like it did when I was 23.....but just because I'm a mom and I want to cover a little more doesn't mean I can't look good, right? With that in mind, I thought I'd share some fun one-piece swimsuit and cover-up options for the upcoming season. I found lots of cute options at Target and Old Navy, including some that are dupes for pricier versions, so definitely check those out first! I also threw in some accessories just for fun!

Swimsuit I have this suit in dark purple and it's one of my favorites. The plunging neckline isn't too plunging so I can wear it without feeling self-conscious that my boobs will fall out, and I love the lace detail!
Cover-Up Maxi Dress I originally ordered this coverup in black, and liked it, but ended up returning it. When I saw this blue and white striped version, I decided to give it another chance. The website says to size down, which I did for the black one, but for this one I ended up ordering my regular size. I will say that because of the way the pockets lay, it kind of makes me look a little hippy, but not in a bad way - you can tell it's the dress, and I wanted a more relaxed, comfortable fit so I preferred the medium.
One of my least favorite things to do is clean, but I also can't stand it when our house is messy. Not a good combination. What makes it even worse is that Michael could care less about what our house looks like. I guess in a way that's good - I don't have to feel guilty when I spend my day sitting on the couch watching Hallmark movies or out shopping, but it's also somewhat frustrating because it means when something is out of place, he doesn't notice/do anything about it. Case in point - this blanket sat on the floor right in front of the stairs for a day. Carter even walked right over it. It killed me just to leave it on the floor, but I left it until the next morning.

I decided to create a cleaning schedule to try to keep myself on track and thought I'd share it with you today. I just started, so fingers crossed it's something I can actually stick to.

Daily:

Day: Unload dishwasher, do a load of laundry (fold and put away), clean a closet/drawer, dust mop, vacuum downstairs rugs

Night: Run dishwasher, wipe down counters, trash/recycling, junk baskets*

*The kids both have baskets that we keep on the stairs. Even though they keep their toys in their bedrooms and the game room closet, somehow toys, books, etc. always end up downstairs. During the day as I come across anything that belongs upstairs, I put it in their baskets. Then at night before they go to bed we take one last sweep of the downstairs before bringing the baskets upstairs to empty.

Weekly:

Saturday - Shine the Sink (see this post for details on how I do this)
Sunday - Sheets
Monday - Floors (upstairs)
Tuesday - Bathrooms
Wednesday - Weekly Chore
Thursday - Dust furniture, clean mirrors
Friday - Floors (downstairs)

Weekly Chores:

Week 1: Blinds

Week 2: Sweep Front & Back Porch

Week 3: Clean Refrigerator

Week 4: Baseboards

I have been really curious about trying Norwex products since my mom mentioned it a few weeks ago. Then when I was trying to come up with a cleaning schedule, I searched Pinterest for ideas and came across a blogger who raved about their products, so I decided to order some. I'm all for anything that makes cleaning easier, and with Norwex products you don't have to use any cleaners, you just use water! Sounds almost too good to be true, but I'm hoping that's not the case. I just placed my order today, so I'll do a full review once I've had everything for a few weeks.

Do you follow a cleaning routine? If so, please share in the comments below!

Okay, so I've been trying really hard to stick to my no shopping rule for Lent, but all of these amazing spring sales are making it really hard! Shopbop is having a sale right now that is WAY better than the one I mentioned in this post (that one was tiered, whereas in this one you save 20% on any purchases under $500 and 25% if you happen to spend $500 or more), so I thought I'd share some fun items that are included in the sale. Shopbop had become another favorite place to shop (behind Nordstrom) because they offer free two day shipping through Amazon Prime.

Shoes

Here are some of my favorite shoes that are included in the sale. I either own them or will be purchasing them during the sale. I know, I'm not supposed to shop during Lent, but Easter is this Sunday and the pairs I'm ordering were already on my wish list, so I might as well buy them now when I can save some money!

Okay, so I'm editing this to let you know that I am returning the black patent shoes, but I won't be ordering the leather ones. The shoes are super cute and the ankle strap makes them look kind of sexy, but they fit my toes weird. The strap hits my toes in a weird place and you can see the bottom of my baby toe behind the strap. Toe cleavage? No thank you! Sorry for the unattractive photo of my feet, but I thought I'd share a picture so you can see what I mean.

Anyhow....I shared earlier in the week on Facebook that I had ordered these shoes for Easter (shown on the right in the above photo). The strap on these is wider, which means it covers up the toe cleavage. Long story short, I'm returning the Sam Edelman shoes and have already ordered a black patent pair of the BP. shoes. It works out well because the BP. ones are only $59.95 and even on sale the Sam Edelman ones are $80. Nordstrom offers free shipping, so get these if you haven't already taken my earlier advice and gotten these.

I have the tan ones right now, but I'm picking up the black ones today. They are seriously one of the most comfortable pair of shoes I own and I get tons of compliments every time I wear them. I've seen mixed reviews as far as sizing - for me they fit true to size. They felt tight when they first arrived, but they have stretched with wear, so I'm glad I didn't size up.
When I was little, one of my favorite things was getting a new Easter outfit! Now as a mom I still get excited picking something cute out for Sophia and Carter, and I try my best to find something cute for myself as well. With that in mind, I thought I'd share some cute options, both for Easter and any special occasions (or even just because it's cute!) you may have coming up this Spring or Summer.

1. White Lace This dress is beautiful! I love that the spaghetti straps are adjustable. I actually originally ordered this as my Easter dress, but I kind of felt like it was a little too much va va voom to wear to church on Easter Sunday. I think it's probably best for smaller chested girls, but that may just be me being self-conscious about the size of my chest.

2. Green Lace Dress I love the color of this dress! It's just so springy! I just recently discovered Chicwish. They are offering an extra 20% off through the end of today with the code "Sun20."

3. White Collared Dress I ordered this dress on a whim when I decided that the the white lace dress I'd originally ordered for Easter was too revealing. It's cheaper, which is nice, and I think I like the shorter length on me a little better. I ordered these shoes to wear with it for a fun pop of color.

4. Floral Cold Shoulder I love flowers for Spring, and the cold shoulder look is a trend that is still going strong.
5. Yellow Floral I love how bright and flowy this dress is! Unfortunately I don't look good in yellow, so if I order it I'll probably get it in blue, but the yellow is beautiful!
6. Blue off the Shoulder This dress is less than $30 at Target! Um, yes please! I love an off-the-shoulder top or dress ~ there is just something about exposed shoulders that makes you feel a little sexier without being too revealing.
I couldn't leave without giving you a peak at Sophia's Easter dress. GAP is offering 40% off right now with code "SPRING."

It's been a little over two months since I shared what I was doing to get fit and healthy in this post, so I thought I'd give an update.

The biggest lesson I've learned in the three months that I've been working out regularly (4-6 days/week) is that it's not about the number on the scale. Okay, so I probably shouldn't say it's a lesson that I've learned....it's a lesson I'm TRYING to learn. I've lost about five pounds, but the past few weeks I have kind of been at a standstill with my weight, which is frustrating. I'm okay with my current weight, but then I think about what I weighed when I got married.....I'd like to get closer to that number (see, I said I want to get CLOSER, not reach it. I'm being realistic....there isn't any way that I'm going to get back to my weight as a 23 year old, right?). I wish that I would have taken measurements prior to beginning the regimen because then I wouldn't be so focused on the number on my scale, which I'm still loving, the scale, not necessarily the number (buy it HERE or HERE). When I look in the mirror I can definitely see a difference in my body, in a good way. My stomach and my upper thighs are my biggest concerns, and I have noticed a big difference in the way they look. This is where taking measurements would have come in handy - the number on the scale may not be changing as dramatically as I'd like, but if I'd taken measurements I'd have confirmation that a change was happening (because, you know, looking in the mirror isn't good enough).

Anyhow...with Michael traveling, soccer practices, etc it's been hard to stick to the meal plan I created, at least when it comes to dinners, so while I was still trying to make smarter choices when it came to what I ate, I wasn't necessarily paying attention to my daily calorie count. A few weeks ago I started using the Lose It app. I had originally planned on joining Weight Watchers, but it's $20 a month and Lose It is free (unless you select their premium plan, but even then it's only $39.99 for an entire year), so I decided to stick with Lose It. It's really easy to use - you simply create a profile with your current weight and your goal weight (and how quickly you want to reach your goal) and it tells you how many calories you can eat each day. Once you've created your profile you log your meals, snacks, and any exercise by scanning the item, searching by product, or manually entering the product information. You can even create recipes to calculate the complete calorie count on different foods (eg Linguine in Clam Sauce - 361 calories per serving, Dilly Dip - 96 calories per serving, Dump Cake - 201 calories per serving). When you log exercise, it subtracts the calories burned from your daily total. I still try to stay at or below my daily calories without deducting the exercise, but it's nice to have a buffer.

While the elliptical is good for cardio, I decided to add in some additional exercises. I've started doing the 30 Day Butt Lift Challenge as well as the 30 Day Plank Fat Burning Challenge, and have also started including crunches and weights into my daily workouts. I'm hoping that by adding in these exercises I'll begin to see a bigger difference.

We are going to Hawaii in June for our 15th anniversary, so that was my motivation to start working out, but I've gotten to the point where I feel guilty when I don't work out (even though I still don't enjoy it, like AT ALL), so hopefully I'll keep it up. What are you doing to get fit and stay healthy?

Rather than doing a standard favorites post (though when they've been sporadic at best I don't know that I could call it "standard" anyhow) I decided to share my thoughts on some of the things I've purchased recently.

1. La Mer Crème de la Mer I have been really concerned with aging, so I gave in and purchased the La Mer Introductory Collection. The main reason I purchased it was to try the Crème de la Mer. I was surprised by how thick it was and felt like I had to use a lot of it to cover my face and neck. Because of this, I won't be repurchasing it. It's too expensive to repurchase every month or two. Instead I'll be going back to using the Clinique Moisture Surge Intense that I mentioned it in this post.

2. Fresh Sugar Face Polish I went to Sephora a few weeks ago to find a new foundation that gives me a little more coverage than my Vitazing. Unfortunately I ended up returning the foundation she recommended because it didn't give me enough coverage, but I ended up buying this exfoliator once I got home because the consultant told me that my nose was dry. I've never thought of my nose as dry, but I took her advice and ordered this when I got home. I've only used it a few times, but I've already noticed a different in how smooth my skin is. Love!

3. neuLash Serum Several bloggers I follow have raved about this eyelash serum, so I splurged on it to see if it lived up to the hype. I have only been using it a few weeks, but I feel like my lashes are thicker and longer ~ I'm not sure if it's because the serum is actually doing what it claims to do or it's just in my head, but so far I like what I'm seeing. You can probably achieve the same look by using this mascara, so I'm not sure it's worth the price tag, but if you want to try a lash serum I'd recommend this one.

4. L'Oréal Double Extend Lash Extension Effect Mascara This mascara reminds me of the Younique Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes, but it's less than $10! It adds so much length and volume to my lashes - they almost look fake! I think "Step 1" makes the biggest difference in adding length. I use it with the Too Faced mascara and it creates major drama (in a good way!). I also love that it doesn't run or come off. It's quickly become a beauty must-have.

5. Essie Fiji Polish This is the perfect pale pink nail polish. It's all I've been wearing since purchasing it a few weeks ago!

6. Soludos Espadrilles I ordered these during the Shopbop sale that I blogged about in this post, and they have quickly become a new favorite! I ordered the tan and am considering ordering the black as well. They are incredibly comfortable and are so cute! I've seen mixed reviews as far as sizing - for me they fit true to size. They felt tight when they first arrived, but they have stretched with wear, so I'm glad I didn't size up.

7. BP. Mirrored Aviator Sunglasses I love these aviators! And the best part ~ they're $12! Yep, you read that right. BP. is a super affordable brand that is carried exclusively at Nordstrom. I have several BP. pieces, including my favorite long sleeved tees (on sale for less than $11!), and I have the Rose Gold aviators and love them! I'm the worst about throwing my sunglasses in my purse without a case, so the lenses are a little scratched, but since they were only $12 I can easily replace them when needed. Buy them!

8. Le Spec Rapture Bat Wing Sunglasses This sunglass brand is a little more of a splurge when you compare it to the BP. brand sunglasses, but at $59 I'd still consider it more of a save when compared to my dream sunglasses which I won't be purchasing anytime too soon. The "bat wing" is a fun take on the cat eye and it adds some interest to basic black sunnies.

If there is something specific you'd like to see on my blog, please share in the comments below! Happy shopping!
We purchased most of our furniture when we built our last house in 2006, so it's time to update things a little. It all started with Michael buying two monitors, a keyboard, and a laptop docking station for his office. Once everything arrived I realized that our desk was way too small and I needed to find something new. Several of the decor items in our office are black and gold, so I decided to stick with that color scheme. The first two purchases I made were this console table and rug.

I'd originally planned on getting a more modern glass desk, and found what I thought would be the perfect one, but then Michael set up the monitors and docking station and I realized that I needed something that would hide some of the cords and the actual docking station. I started searching and found this L-shaped desk at Adam's Furniture. It still fit with the overall color scheme of the room, so I decided to switch directions a little. We ordered this desk and the matching lateral file.

Right now the only things that have been delivered are the table and the rug, but I'm so excited with how the room is coming together! Stay tuned for the full room reveal soon!
